Description

After agreeing to run away with the daughter-in-law of the king of Banaras, the destitute young man realizes that their relationship is unlikely to end happily. He leaves, taking her valuables with him. The woman, now alone on the other side of the stream, bereft of her jewelry, touches her index finger to her mouth in a gesture of shock.
A vertically oriented book page features Persian script in the upper half and a painting below depicting a landscape. A dark stream diagonally bisects the green ground, which is dotted with pink and purple rocks. On our left, a man in an orange tunic and white turban runs away with a red bundle. On our right, a woman in a blue top and red skirt stands by the water, holding a finger to her lips.
