The fish that the jackal was trying to catch is visible in the stream.

Description

Having been left alone in the wilderness by her lover, the woman comes across the jackal who has just lost its meal. The wise jackal counsels her on the importance of satisfaction and instructs her to return to her husband. Above them, a large bird flies away with the jackal’s food gripped in its feet.
A vertically oriented painting with fine ink outlines and flat color washes features Persian calligraphy above a stylized landscape. Center left, a woman in a red skirt gestures toward a jackal. To the right, a dark stream holds a fish beneath rolling hills rendered with soft purple and brown gradients. A tree with a canopy of stippled green dots stands in the center. Above, a bird carries red prey across the sky.
