Description

Mansur, a wealthy and successful merchant, prepares to leave home on a long and dangerous journey. He sits dressed in orange at the head of his ship alongside a group of assistants. His wife, renowned for her virtue and beauty, sees him off from her second-story chamber.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and ink painting features blocks of dark script above an outdoor scene. On our left, a man with light skin tone in an orange tunic sits under a canopy in a patterned boat. In the center, three men with dark and medium skin tones row across dark water. On our right, a woman with light skin tone looks out from a red-curtained balcony against rolling tan hills.
