Did You Know?

The Brahman has a mark on his forehead identifying him as a worshipper of the Hindu god Vishnu.

Description

On the left, the wary Brahman approaches the great lion, who rests on the banks of a river. Before the lion can attack, the deer and the gazelle step in and council him to receive the Brahman kindly. The Brahman has wandered into the wilderness after losing all of his wealth, but the lion gifts him an immense treasure.
A vertically oriented tempera painting depicts four lines of Persian script above a purple hillside scene. At the bottom left, a figure in pink pants and a white top stands with a hand to their chin. A tan lion reclines in the center, while a dark gazelle and spotted deer stand above against the rocky outcroppings. A green tree and winding path occupy the right. Ornate gold and blue borders frame the scene.
