Description

While Habbaza is away carrying on an affair with her lover Bashir, Bashir’s friend dresses in Habbaza’s clothes and waits in her tent. Each night, Habbaza’s husband offers her milk and when she refuses, leaves her in peace. This time, however, he becomes enraged at her silence and lashes out.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and ink painting features script above a campsite. In a large red tent, a bearded man with a light skin tone wearing a yellow shirt raises a whip toward a reclining figure in an orange dress and white veil. A face peers from a striped tent behind them. Patterned tents and a white bowl occupy a green field below pinkish-brown rocks and a dark blue sky.
