Did You Know?

Two pieces of blue and white Chinese porcelain are visible in niches in Khujasta’s room.

Description

Khujasta consults with the talking parrot Tuti before leaving to meet with her lover. The shrewd bird begins to tell her the story of a lynx who successfully saved himself from a lion. By the time the story ends, it is too late for Khujasta to leave for her rendezvous.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and ink manuscript page features black Persian calligraphy above a detailed illustration. Khujasta, a woman with light skin tone wearing a green top, orange patterned skirt, and sheer veil, gestures toward a green parrot in a gold cage. To her right, a turreted red and white building contains a densely patterned blue bed. Golden vessels and bowls sit on stands against a purple wall and dark, sloping hillside.
