Description

While the lion is away, the monkey is put in charge of protecting his land. However, a family of lynx soon move into the lion’s den, claiming that they are the rightful owners. The text depicts the lion’s home as a beautiful meadow with a field of tulips.
A vertically oriented book page features Persian script in the upper half and a tempera painting below. Against a backdrop of bulbous pink mountains, a tan monkey sits on green grass, gesturing toward two reddish-tan lynxes and three small cubs. Stalks of orange blossoms and leafy green trees sprout around the animals. The composition is framed by gold borders against a cream-colored paper background.
