Description

The lion who rules the meadow returns from a journey to find that his home has been invaded by a family of lynx, who claim that they are its rightful owners. Although this painting depicts all of the animals together, in the text, the lion does not see the lynx and is easily tricked into believing they are fearsome creatures.
A book page features Persian script in the upper third against a gold background. Below, a painting depicts a tawny lion descending a pink rocky slope from our right toward a dark pool. At bottom left, a brown monkey sits on a rock, gesturing with both hands toward two lynxes and three kittens. Stylized trees with layered green leaves and small red flowers populate the landscape, enclosed within a thin gold and red border.
