Description

On the thirty-fourth of fifty-two nights, Tuti the wise parrot tells Khujasta two fantastical stories. The first is about the daughter of a merchant who was saved from an evil fairy by her many suitors. The second features the daughter of a raja who witnessed the miraculous resurrection of her dead husband and his friend.
A vertically oriented manuscript page features rows of Persian script above a gum tempera painting. Khujasta, a woman with medium-light skin tone draped in orange and green, stands in a courtyard facing a green parrot atop a red cage. The composition is flattened into planes of repeating circular and geometric patterns. To the right, a pink building sits near a brick wall, while stylized trees rise behind, rendering a vibrant, decorative scene.
