Did You Know?

The king experiences three more dreams, representing his strength, reason, and good deeds.

Description

The sleeping king lies sprawled across a bed with the bowl and staff at his side. These inauspicious purchases represent his impending loss of wealth. He allows the woman to leave and, upon waking, finds that all of his possessions have disappeared.
A vertically oriented tempera painting features bands of black script framing a central scene. In the foreground pavilion, a light-skinned man in an orange tunic reclines on a patterned blue mattress. To our right, a light-skinned woman in a blue bodice and green skirt stands looking upward. A staff and bowl rest near the figure. Receding into the background, red brick walls and green trees appear behind a white crenellated wall.
