Shahr-Arai loudly proclaims that her lover is an adopted brother who will protect the husband’s life.

Description

Shahr-Arai’s husband hides under his wife’s bed in an attempt to catch her in a love affair. Despite his precautions, the ends of his purple robe peek out from beneath the bed. When Shahr-Arai sees this, she quickly concocts a plan to trick her husband and protect her lover.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and ink painting features rows of black calligraphic script above a cutaway architectural scene. At center, within a pink-walled structure, a woman in gold and a man in orange sit closely on a green bed, gazing at one another. Below them, a bearded man in a purple robe and white turban lies on a blue floral rug. Far left, a green dome sits atop a brick tower.
