Description

The merchant of Tirmiz hurries home with a parrot’s cage clutched in his right hand and a myna bird’s in his left. His friend, dressed in orange, has suggested that these wise birds can offer advice to the merchant’s son, ‘Ubaid, who has becomes excessively infatuated with his wife.
A vertically oriented tempera and ink manuscript page features black Persian calligraphy framing a central painting. In a tiled courtyard, a light-skinned figure in a blue tunic and red trousers carries two bird cages, one containing a green parrot. To the right, another figure in an orange tunic stands gesturing toward them. Behind the figures, a red-roofed pavilion sits near flowering trees and a red lattice fence.
