Description

At the front of the ship, the young man calls out to the Hashimi, who sits beside the weeping slave girl. Despite their love, the destitute young man had been forced to sell the girl. She is overjoyed to see her long-lost lover and begins to sing so beautifully that the birds, fish, and the ocean itself join in the celebration.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and ink painting depicts a boat crowded with figures on dark, swirling water. At right, a man in orange robes sits on an elevated platform beside a woman, gesturing toward a dozen figures with varied headwear. A man steers near a hexagonal wooden enclosure at left. Behind them, lush green trees rise against a purple hillside. Below, four lines of black script are framed by a red and gold border.
