Did You Know?

Rum is the Arabic name for Rome.

Description

As the sun sets on the fiftieth night, Khujasta attempts to leave to visit her lover. She is stopped by Tuti, the clever talking parrot, who begins to tell a story about the princess of Rum and the anguish caused by her son. The parrot’s tale lasts until sunrise, and Khujasta is again unable to meet with her lover.
A manuscript page features an illustration of a woman with light skin tone on our right gesturing toward a green parrot on our left. She wears a blue top and orange skirt against a purple geometric wall. The parrot sits atop a cage before a white building with a red roof. Six rows of black Persian script fill the bottom half of the page, all enclosed by a gold border.
