Description

With collages of densely interwoven scraps of paper gleaned from daily life, Schwitters produced dynamic compositions in which the interaction of the materials becomes a kind of dance. Notice here the way the color red "dances" among the subdued tones of white, gray, and ochre.
A vertically oriented collage features layered, torn paper scraps in tan, red, black, and white. Jagged fragments cluster toward the center, overlapping larger rectangular tan sheets that anchor the composition. These scraps reveal printed numbers and German text, including "21.00" and "SIESTA." The entire work is mounted on cream paper with elegant handwritten script below reading "Mz. 65. Kleiner Tanz." on our left and "Kurt Schwitters 1920" on our right.
