Description

Chinese potters in the 1500s integrated foreign motifs, shapes, and ideas in order to cater to changing tastes and new customers in an increasingly global world.
This white porcelain vessel features a square body and a cylindrical neck topped with a wavy rim of vertical tubes. Blue underglaze depicts dense floral scrolls and circular medallions containing Arabic script. Two curved handles flank the neck above a row of geometric patterns. Rows of dots line the flared base and upper neck. The smooth glaze catches the light, highlighting the intricate intertwining patterns decorating the vessel's formal, structured form.
