Description

In a whimsical detail, Dürer included two cherubs seated at the feet of the Virgin who attempt to play a lute and a bagpipe, heralding the celebration of the new family.
A vertically oriented print in black ink depicts a dense group of figures framed by textured trees. Centrally, a woman sits holding a small child. To our right, another woman in a head covering gazes toward them. In the foreground, two winged infants sit; one plays a lute near a bagpipe. Bearded men in heavy robes stand behind the central group. The date 1511 is centered at the top edge.
