Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (March 30, 1842) as plate 4 from the series Ancient History.
A vertically oriented print in black ink on cream paper depicts a coastal scene. On the right, a bearded, nude man with light skin tones and defined muscles stands on a rock wearing leafy branches. He gazes with wide eyes at several women who cluster behind laundry hanging on lines. Loose, sketchy lines define the scene, and French text runs along the top and bottom.
