Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (August 14, 1842) as plate 20 from the series Ancient History.
A vertically oriented lithograph depicts the meeting of Alexander and Diogenes in a sparse landscape framed by French text. On our left, Diogenes, a bearded man with a light skin tone, reclines against a gnarled tree and smokes a pipe. On our right stands Alexander, a stocky man with a light skin tone wearing an ornate breastplate, a massive plumed helmet, and a long cape. He points toward the reclining philosopher.
