Did You Know?

The text describes the descent of Mahavira from heaven into the womb of the Brahman woman Devananda.
A horizontal work in gum tempera and black ink on two palm leaf fragments features dense script flanking a miniature scene. In the top strip, a seated figure with light skin tone faces right, holding a pink flower. Below, two script columns occupy the weathered tan material. Red ink borders define the text blocks and irregular edges. This composition balances ancient calligraphy with a central figure on aged, punctured surfaces.
