Did You Know?

This version of the story of Kalaka was composed in 1089.
A gum tempera and ink painting on a fragmented, horizontal strip of tan palm leaf with jagged edges. Four rows of dense, black script fill the surface, organized into panels by vertical red lines. A circular binding hole within a red square sits slightly to our left of the midpoint. The stylized, angular characters maintain a consistent height and spacing across the textured material.
