Did You Know?

A waterfall descends between two mountains; the series of cascades is hinted by the careful placement of intermittent rocks.

Description

Fan Qi's painting for the third leaf of the album evokes Wang Wei's poetic line: Sit and watch the clouds rising.

Xu Fang's calligraphic colophon reads:
Green are the reeds, the sun not yet set;
Tree foliage and mountain colors divide the lake into two halves.
A solitary recluse sits upon a flat bluff,
Occasionally observing white clouds rising from the mountain tops.
An album leaf in ink and color on silk features a landscape painting on the right and Chinese calligraphy on the left. In the painting, a red-robed person sits on a grassy bank overlooking a river flanked by hazy mountains and rocky cliffs in muted earthy tones. On the left, five columns of black calligraphy are surrounded by smaller text and red square seals. A seal also marks the painting's right edge.
