Description

Panthers were among the first wild animals depicted by Rembrandt Bugatti after his encounter with them in the French national zoo, at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris.
A dark brown, textured bronze sculpture depicts a muscular panther prowling to the right. The animal has a heavy build with a thick, lowered neck. Its right front paw stretches forward and its long tail extends behind, curling slightly at the tip. The surface is rough with visible ridges that catch the light. It stands on a flat bronze plate atop a rectangular, dark green marble base with lighter veining.
