Description

This may be a study for the painting Ladies Shooting from a Pavilion (1955.48)
A vertically oriented graphite and watercolor drawing on torn paper depicts a royal hunt. To our left, two women aim firearms from a pavilion. To our right, deer with overlapping outlines leap through a landscape of hills and trees with dashed leaves. Below, two yellow lions crouch near a lotus-filled pond. Faint washes of color and a personified sun in the upper left accent the fine line work throughout this lively scene.
