Description

As an amulet, the basket was associated with the cat-goddess Bastet. Statuettes of Bastet frequently show her carrying basketfuls of kittens. This amulet is remarkable for its openwork design
An Egyptian blue sculpture features a globular body tapering toward a narrow base. Three horizontal rows of pierced zigzags create rhythmic triangular voids around the granular surface. A rope-like band circles the rim, from which two flat handles rise vertically like upright tabs. The dark blue material highlights the contrast between the solid openwork lattice and the hollow interior, while soft light emphasizes the repeating geometric patterns across the form.
