Description

Many English watercolorists of the period were especially interested in capturing natural effects of the landscape, such as cloud formations. Such studies were of particular interest to the French Impressionists.
A horizontally oriented watercolor depicts a sky with layered clouds. In the upper corners, muted blue and gray washes frame the scene. Warm peach and pink tones dominate the center and sides, interspersed with visible pencil sketches throughout. Below, a cluster of dark blue-gray clouds forms a ragged horizon against a pale, luminous center where thin washes reveal the paper beneath.
