A horizontally oriented oil painting depicts a wide river reflecting a pale sky in the lower half. Large, rounded trees with muted green foliage cluster in the center. On our right, a light-skinned woman washes laundry near a pack horse and a seated figure on a grassy slope. Two thatched-roof cottages sit in the background. Soft brushstrokes define an expansive sky of cream and light blue in the upper half.

Galerie Claude Marumo, Paris.  Bought by Mr. and Mrs. Noah L. Butkin, Cleveland, in 1977.  Bequeathed to the CMA in 1980.
