Did You Know?

In traditional Chinese culture, bamboo symbolizes a gentleman's virtuous resilience and flexibility.

Description

This deceptively simple composition features two upright stalks of bamboo with leafy stems extended to fill the silk. The painter sensitively balanced ink tones and brushstrokes. The leaves that cross in front of other leaves are outlined in clear silk.
A vertically oriented hanging scroll in black ink on dark brown silk depicts bamboo stalks rising from the base. Slender stems support dense clusters of pointed leaves extending to the left and right, filling the tall composition. Varied ink tones create a sense of depth and layering through the foliage. A strip of patterned light-blue silk borders the top, while narrow gold bands frame the vertical sides of the painting.
