Description

Hua Yan is one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, who rejected orthodox ideas about painting.
An album leaf displays an ink and light color painting. On the left, bare trees rise from pale ground. At the center, a light brown horse bows its head as a boy with ruffled hair and a light skin tone stands behind, holding its lead. The upper right corner features vertical columns of Chinese calligraphy and a square red seal, all positioned against a cream-colored background.
