Description

Hua Yan is one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, who rejected orthodox ideas about painting.
A horizontal ink and color painting depicts five children with light skin tones near a large, porous gray rock. In the center, a blindfolded child in a reddish tunic reaches toward another in pale blue. One child peeks through a rock opening while two others stand to the left. Pale green leaves and pink blossoms sprout around the group, and a red seal marks the lower right against the plain paper.
