Description

Otto Bacher was the first Cleveland artist to achieve a national reputation. He probably made this drawing while studying at the Royal Academy in Munich.
A vertically oriented charcoal drawing on tan paper features a standing nude woman with light skin. Angled toward our right, she tilts her head back, gazing upward. Fine hatching and rhythmic lines define her musculature and curly hair, with darker shading accentuating her torso and legs. Her arms rest passively at her sides. A signature in the bottom-left reads "Otto H. Bacher," below horizontal creases that texture the study.
