Did You Know?

The deity wears a short-sleeved garment draped over his finely striated hair and shoulders.

Description

The Water and Moon Guanyin is seated in the posture called "royal ease." His right leg is drawn up with folded knee; the left leg flexed. One hand rests on the upraised knee; the other extends downward to support weight on the palm. With gilding, the image assumes the splendor of divine dignity.
A gilt bronze sculpture depicts the seated Guanyin, a deity leaning back on their left hand with the right knee raised. The figure wears flowing robes, armlets, and a tall, cowl-like headdress. Downcast eyes and long earlobes define the serene face. Dark patches of wear and oxidation interrupt the golden surface, particularly on the torso and base, revealing the dark bronze underneath the gilding.
