Did You Know?

Spatters of white paint represent falling snow.

Description

This painting depicts a young woman braving the elements as she hurries home from the local bathhouse. The action depicted accentuates her slender neck and bare legs. In later Japanese art, images of beautiful women in bare feet and a towel between their teeth have sensual overtones.
A vertical ink and color painting on a hanging scroll depicts a woman with a light skin tone and dark hair. She turns back, clutching a blue cloth in her mouth while holding a large, white parasol against falling snow. She wears a red kimono cinched by a dark, patterned sash. Vertical calligraphy and red seals appear along the middle left and lower right against a tan background.
