Description

Bellange portrayed each of the three Magi—Balthasar, Melchior, and Caspar—as a single-figure print.
A vertically oriented etching in black ink depicts Melchior, a man with a light skin tone, seen from behind. Shaded with dense hatching and draped in a heavy, dark, floor-length coat beneath a gathered light-colored mantle, he stands facing away from us. A voluminous hat topped with curly feathers sits on his head. Deep shadows contrast against the lighter fabric. An inscription appears in the bottom right corner.
