Did You Know?

She stands on a cluster of leafy vegetation.

Description

The royal court at Bikaner included Muslim women. This royal woman wears a white cloak covered with a repeating gilded leaf pattern and a screen sewn in at the forehead. When the cloak is pulled over her face for added modesty, she looks out through the screen.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and ink painting depicts a woman with light skin tone standing in profile, facing our left. She wears a hooded white cloak with green leaf patterns and pointed red shoes. A red and gold patterned fabric shows near her hand and feet. She stands on dark green ground against a pale green field with Persian script at the top. A tan border with golden flowers frames the scene.
