A vertically oriented hanging scroll with black ink and slight color on aged tan paper sparsely depicts a round owl perched on a thorny branch curving toward the right. The bird's eyes are narrowed, gazing downward. Above, columns of fluid Japanese calligraphy occupy the upper center, with a red square seal marking the far right. Fine brushstrokes define the owl's feathers and the branch's thorns against the muted, textured background.
