Pillar prints, or hashira-e (柱絵), are long and narrow Japanese woodblock prints originally intended to decorate wooden pillars.
A vertically oriented woodblock print in color depicts a woman standing on our right, looking toward water filled with undulating, rippled lines. She wears a blue and white striped robe with a patterned sash and raised wooden sandals while holding a circular fan. Slender, flowering shrubs grow along the shore near a reflected moon. A small rectangular inset at the top contains a seated figure and text, the scene set against a pale background.
