Did You Know?

Pillar prints, or hashira-e (柱絵), are long and narrow Japanese woodblock prints originally intended to decorate wooden pillars.
A woodblock print with ink and color on a tall, narrow vertical strip depicts a woman with a light skin tone walking through falling snow. She wears a black kimono with red and blue accents and a light blue sash, shielding herself with a yellow and blue umbrella. Fine lines outline her downcast gaze. White spots dot the gray background. Japanese calligraphy and a triangular symbol feature at the bottom.
