Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
An arched ink and color drawing on paper is cluttered with six stylized faces. In the lower left, a figure in a vibrant red robe faces right. Above them, a face peers beneath a pleated brown headpiece. Centrally, a man with a mustache wears a tall black hat. To the right, a woman sits above a man in a tall black hat, beside a bald figure. Fluid lines and washes define their pale, expressive features.
