Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
A horizontal ink and color drawing on paper depicts a woman with light skin tone seated facing our left. Bold ink lines outline her form and her hair, which is bundled into a dark mass. Dressed in a blue robe patterned with fans and a red collar, her eyes are downcast toward an open book. She rests her hand on a wooden armrest while checkered fabric trails against a plain tan background.
