Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
A horizontally oriented ink and color drawing depicts a figure with a light skin tone, rosy red cheeks, and downcast eyes walking toward our left. They wear a vibrant blue kimono cinched with a green dotted sash and a gray cap, carrying a small green basket on one hip. Bold, dark ink lines partition the cream-colored background into flat shapes of pale green, soft pink, and yellow.
