Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
A horizontally oriented ink and color drawing on yellow paper depicts a large, dark brown leaf with brown veins on our right. From the top left, a branch of lavender flowers and green leaves curves toward the center. At the lower left, thin gray outlines form a cluster of round blossoms. Small jagged green leaves sit beneath the dark leaf, while scattered red and black dots accent the background.
