Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
A horizontal ink and color drawing on tan paper depicts a man with a light skin tone, a tall black hat, and a small smile as he sweeps toward our left. He wears a voluminous white robe over blue garments. Barefoot, he leans forward and grips a long-handled broom with both hands. Several red maple leaves are scattered across the lower foreground. Small dark spots and visible wear appear on the plain background.
