Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
Horizontally oriented ink and color on aged, yellowish-tan paper features an expansive, mostly blank surface marked by faint brown smudges. A small blue mark punctuates the upper left. On the far right, a fragment of a cart is rendered in thick black strokes, showing a cross-hatched screen and partial wheel. This minimalist composition emphasizes negative space, leaving the majority of the textured paper empty and highlighting its weathered, time-worn character.
