Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
A horizontally oriented ink and color drawing features a minimalist scene on a tan background. At the far left, a small snail crawls toward a large, cream-colored puppy crouching in the center with its head lowered. Thick black ink outlines define its form. To the right, two vertical black bamboo stalks stand in the foreground; a second, reddish-brown puppy peeks from behind, its face and dark eyes visible between them.
