Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
A horizontally oriented ink and color drawing depicts a figure seated on the right, facing left with downcast eyes. Wearing a tall black hat and light purple robe patterned with blossoms, their long black hair reaches a yellow wooden deck. Bold black strokes outline the floor boards while thin green willow branches hang from the top edge. A woven basket motif appears on the figure's garment against a pale background.
