Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
A horizontally oriented ink and color drawing on paper depicts a child and a massive ox. On our left, a child with black hair wears a blue robe while playing a green flute. To our right, the large black ox dominates the scene, showing gray horns and a yellow eye. Thick, expressive ink lines define the figures against solid blocks of color. A pale foreground and woven basket complete the composition.
