Description

Kamisaka Sekka made preparatory drawings for his Flowers of a Hundred Worlds series on tracing paper with ink and color. The freehand sketches are much looser than the finished, printed compositions.
A horizontally oriented, stylized ink and color drawing is divided into crowded diagonal sections. Top left, a large face with yellow horns and wide eyes looms over a black-robed figure. A broad, flesh-toned diagonal band splits the center, bordered by a mustachioed man and a woman in black and red. At far right, a figure in blue and yellow reclines beside green wisteria leaves. Fragmented scenes overlap across the paper.
