Description

This gold coin represents the reign of the Kushana ruler, Havishka. The coin bears a portrait of the ruler on the obverse and various deities on the reverse. It is identified by inscriptions in Kharosthi, the language used in northwestern India during the Kushan period.
Two sides of a gold coin feature an inscription circling an image on both sides (see "Inscriptions" field). On the left, a royal profile faces left, wearing a beaded headdress and halo. On the right, a standing figure faces right, holding a staff and wreath, flanked by a stylized monogram. Both sides are framed by a border of small, rounded bumps.
