Description

The artist Bian Shoumin is known for his depiction of wild geese, water, and reeds. The migrant birds in autumn and winter evoked, in the minds of the Chinese intelligentsia, a time of parting and sorrow.
A horizontally oriented off-white paper features dense vertical columns of Chinese calligraphy in black ink. The characters vary in size and stroke thickness throughout the composition. In the lower left corner sits a small square red stamp depicting white characters on a red background. The columns are aligned at the top with uneven bottom edges, leaving a narrow margin of plain paper around the text.
